Ecstatic Dance is a safe and sacred space to express yourself and connect through movement, music, and a beautifully heart-centered community.
Ecstatic Dance has it's roots in 5 rhythms and was birthed in Hawaii. It is now worldwide. There are 3 simple agreements that cultivate a safe and sacred distraction-free environment for you to explore your own movement Ecstatic Dance practive. These agreements are the following:
1. No talking on the dance floor
2. Move as you wish
3. Respect the space (which includes no shoes, booze, phones, and each other's space).
More about Ecstatic Dance:
Ecstatic Dance started in Kansas City in March of 2016. We are just a little over 2 years old and blossoming. We meet weekly (every Sunday morning) for 3 hours. We always start with some sort of movement practice like yoga, floor work or contact improv. Then we begin our Ecstatic Dance (for 2 hours). You are free to move as you wish and take breaks as you wish to stretch, get a snack, meditate, etc… but once on the dance floor ~ shhhh… no talking.
Ecstatic Dance is a freeform dance experience crafted to fasciliate your own unique movement practice. The music starts out slow and ambient, gradually increasing in speed and intensity, and then slowing back down at the end ~ think of it as a sound «wave» designed to take you on your own unique dance journey. This is a truly magical co-creation of connection and expansion through dance, music and community.
Ecstatic Dance began in Hawaii and now happens all over the globe. It transforms lives ~ providing a safe space to move, play and explore in a way that allows you to live a more authentic rich and full life not only on the dance floor, but off of the dance floor as well. I walked into my first Ecstatic Dance at the Historic Sweets Ballroom in Oakand about 8 years ago and knew immediately that I had found something really special. I attended weekly for the following 7 years. It became my medicine and has opened me like nothing else. When you find something so close to your heart, you want to share it. This is why I brought this magic here. It is a huge blessing and I am so honored to fascilitate Ecstatic Dance in Kansas City and watch it evolve and continue to transform my life and those that find it. Our dance community is strong and growing, and it is such a beautiful thing to witness.
