The InterUrban ArtHouse, in conjunction with Mckenzie Adkins of Elecrosexual, presents Exhibition: Illuminating the Queer Experience.

This showing of works and accompanying programs exhibit the experiences and perspectives of artists from many facets of the Kansas City LGBTQIA community, and provide a welcoming platform to share their stories with those in and outside of the queer community.

FRIDAY, 6/15 — Opening Reception, 5-9 pm, with work from over 20 local LGBTQ artists. Literary readings and spoken word performances from 7:30-8:30 by Jeanette Powers, Mitchell King, and Zachary Hoyt.

WED 6/20 — The ArtHouse hosts an artist panel for ArtsKC's Encounter Series. Spoken word artists Jen Harris and Jeanette Powers, and visual artist and curator Joseph Kheen give their insights on the queer art experience. Free and open to the public, but please register at

WED 7/11 — Queer Tango Night: The Redux Society of Kansas City presents a queer tango night, including information on the history of tango, the queer tango movement, lessons for couples, and demonstrations. 7-9pm, tickets $10

FRI 7/13 — Dr. Sketchy's end of season session: Past drag performers and models return for the last Dr Sketchy's night of the summer! 7-10pm, tickets $10

SAT 7/14 — Resistencia: Soy Yo — Members of KC's own Brown Voices Brown Pulse shed light on the experiences of Queer People of Color through the art of spoken word. 6:30-8:30 pm, tickets $15.

THURS 7/19 — GLAMA Film Screening: Film maker Austin Williams, in conjunction with the Gay and Lesbian Archives of Mid America, hosts a screening of his documentary, The Ordinance Project, detailing the history of LGBTQ rights and activism in KC. 6-8pm, FREE.

FRI 7/20 — Exhibition Closing Reception will be Friday, July 20th, 5-8pm, with live music from The Sleazebeats and Vigil and Thieves.
